OUT ON THE EDGE

Jennie went back to her 3-time loser

Said she just needed a man who wouldn’t confuse her

Abuse her

Or leave his clothes all over the floor

She said I need somebody to take care of me

I’m not the beauty I used to be

In my younger days I could pick and choose

But it’s not like that any more

And so she closes her eyes

to the gravity of the compromise she makes

and she wonders sometimes

CHORUS

Whatever happened to

life out on the edge

Taking that moment and just going for it

Not knowing what comes next

Risking everything

For love and hope and the chance to sing

Oh whatever happened to life out on the edge

Well I guess I haven’t come in yet

Talk to my friend on the telephone

He’s so  tired of being alone

Found himself a comfortable woman

Easy on the eyes and on the mind

She never contradicts his spoken word

Looks like an angel, eats like a  bird

Breasts as perfect as honeydew melons

Some would say she’s a find – on the other hand

she doesn’t have much to say

‘cept to talk about the weather

but for now he lives with the choice he’s made

but I say…

CHORUS

BRIDGE

Oh there’s still hope for me

As long as  I don’t wish to

 Be settled

I’ll never settle down

I’ll never settle down

He was a conventional man

With a suit and tie

And a contingency plan

For every eventuality

Except falling in love with a girl like me

And I’ll admit I had my doubts

That we could ever work things out

And I told him so

Over and over again

he just tipped his head to one side

and smiled at me and said

hey babe, don’t knock it if you haven’t tried

and besides…….

Whatever happened to

life out on the edge

Taking that leap, throwing it deep

And simply hoping for the best

Risking everything

For love and whatever it might bring

Oh whatever happened to life out on the edge

Well I guess I haven’t come in yet
