fence stile is a unique place, and it's well worth the drive.
Last night it was a drive south to Lee's Summit Missouri to play in the KC Cafe Internet Radio Roadshow. The venue was Howard Station Park, in the heart, I think, of old downtown Lee's Summit. There's sort of a town square area that surrounds this park, with shops up and down the street. It was a pretty laid-back vibe. People are out, walking up and down well into the evening. The last time I played this KC Cafe event, the trains came through pretty much incessantly. But last night, no trains came through. How is this possible? And as far as weather goes, it couldn't have been sweeter.
Special thanks to Rick, Danny, Tim and Liz and their families, for coming out and supporting me!
Who would have thought you could find such a neat place just a few minutes outside of KC? Last Saturday, Number One Fan and I loaded up and headed to Fence Stile Winery. This time, Number Two Fan – our friend Jim from Alabama - came along for the day.
When you’re at Fence Stile Winery, you’re really out in the country, surrounded by pastures of waving green grasses, ponds, and grapevines! You can bring your own snacks, so for starters, we had to make a detour to pick up a big ol’mess of chicken fingers from Chick-Fil-A.
It was a toasty afternoon, the patio was packed, the audience was attentive and the wine was delicious – I enjoyed a glass when I was finished playing. You can’t ask for more than that.
This past Saturday, Number One Fan and I traveled to Fence Stile Winery near Excelsior Springs, MO. The directions to the winery are a bit involved - turn here, cross this road, blah blah blah. As we followed the directions, we headed farther and farther into the Missouri countryside. I had to laugh because I have dragged NOF to some far out places. One comforting thing: there were signs along the way, letting us know we were on the right road. However, unlike other trips we've made, I wasn't able to read off the directions because I get really carsick if the road is curvy. It was a little curvy.
But, I was still able to say -- uh, you just read such-and-such and I don't think we are there yet. Yes, I always have input! It really didn't take that long, and before you know it we turned into the gate for the winery and took the winding road up to it.
It was a truly delightful setting smack dab in the middle of the country. The weather, of course, was perfect - in the 70s. William and [...]
