Laura Lisbeth: About Laura

Laura Lisbeth got her start early: before she was five, she had memorized the words and melodies to all of her favorite Beatles songs. A child of the western Kansas prairie, she was a diminutive but gutsy “pistol”, who raised eyebrows and riled nuns due to her incorrigible sense of humor and need for self-expression.

Songs of stunning beauty and emotional complexity are the result of the meeting between this wild child and the rest of her life. Laura has danced with fire and lived to tell about it. She knows that dark road you travel at night. She’s been to the “southernmost point”, and sings of it with haunting clarity. Her music – a blend of Americana/Pop/Folk  - and her sound have prompted comparisons to that of Jewell, Aimee Mann and Melissa Etheridge.

As a live performer, Laura builds an immediate connection with her audience through her music and her personality. With arresting vocals, she delivers lyrics as bold and unflinching as she is. But thanks to the humor and sensitivity underlying her poetry, the result is an irresistible mix that keeps audiences coming back for more.

Selected to perform at the 2009 Mamapalooza Conference and Festival in NYC , Laura was a member of the Kacico Dance (www.kacicodance.org) Company's Song and Dance Project 2009.

A solid member of the KC area songwriting community, Laura hosted a songwriter night for two years at the Power Plant in  Parkville, MO. She currently shares  co-hosting  responsibilities with Ken Zans of Mark Twain’s Dog for a new “Songwriter In the Round” event on First Fridays at ARTichokes Gallery in Leawood, KS. She performs regularly at galleries, festivals, and other venues in the Kansas City area.
